Story -The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar
Exposition, Inciting Incident, Plot Point One
Once upon a time, there was a narrator, who wished to remain anonymous, interested in the effects of hypnosis on the consciousness of the dying person. The narrator is a friend of a hypnotist named Mr. Ernest Valdemar, who is terminally ill and has agreed to be the subject of the experiment. The narrator then recounts his previous experiments on Valdemar, during which they discovered that it was possible to put Valdemar in a trance state through hypnosis. In this state, Valdemar's physical decay temporarily stops, and he seems to be freed from his suffering.
Rising Action, Midpoint, Plot Point Two
One day Valdemar's condition worsens, and the narrator and his colleagues decide to conduct one last experiment on him to push the boundaries of hypnotism. They therefore intended to put Valdemar in a trance state for an indefinite period now of his death, curious about his state of consciousness and the effects on his physical body. That's why the hypnotist began to experiment, and when Valdemar entered this state, its appearance changed dramatically, and his face turned into a terrible and pale shade. With each passing day Valdemar remained suspended between life and death. As time passed, his body rapidly deteriorated and smelled of decay, but they continued to record the experiments.
Pre climax, Climax, Denouement
Finally, after Valdemar had been in this state for seven months, the hypnotist and the researchers decided to awaken him from his trance, and when they did so, Valdemar's body collapsed into a decaying mass of fluid leaving only a skeleton. The hypnotist and the researcher fled the room in terror.
