Pre-production

According to the teacher's further explanation, I roughly understood it, so I wrote three ideas PPT introduction

After receiving feedback, I finally thought the idea of forest was good, so I continued to use the idea of forest.

Final Thoughts

Week 2 Exercise: 3D Camera

For this exercise, we just had to learn how to use and experiment with using the 3D camera feature. We were given an After Effects file and we had to use it as a template and animate it.

Project 2

Introduction:
Produce 3D block-out pre-visualization.
• Produce 3D elements and effects block-out
• Composition nesting and layer breakdowns
• Timing and transition confirmation
• Style frame for final look and feel
• Composition ready rendering passes
• Sound effects and ambience music placeholder

Instruction:

Based on pre-production research, students need to implements the idea into a constructive output.

Later I started making 2D animations based on my ideas.I will convert the 2D animation into 3D.

I used Illustrator to draw some leaves. Use AE to create animations.

I got some feedback afterwards. I was able to create a 3D effect based on the swaying of the trees.

But when I started to do it, I found it difficult. I felt that it was always wrong, not good-looking, and did not give people a 3D effect. Then I continued to change it. Some ideas about the forest. I will turn the leaves into trees. I used Illustrator and Photoshop to create the forest scene.

When I was working on the 3D elements of the forest, I adjusted the colors and used camera tracking, and combined nesting and decomposition.

Then use Ae to create 3D video effects. And add background music

Finally, I divided the view into 4 parts, which made it easier for me to decompose the layers and make adjustments. Then I added background music.

final 3D video

To make the forest more vivid, I will add firefly effects, and to achieve the effect of video looping, I will add a reverse timeline.

Post-production

Finally, I will use 3d blender and after effect to simulate projection mapping based on some examples. This is because when projecting on campus, the resolution is not supported, so when testing the mapped content, it cannot be mapped correctly.

When I use 3dBlender, I always make mistakes because I have never used this software before.

But when I was operating it, I didn't understand how to use it. I found some tutorials on the Internet, but they didn't tell me in detail. I always felt that I was missing the previous step.

AE  box
After I got some feedback, I decided to use AE to make the box. I used a rectangular simulation projection

After I find my ideal box, I will render it and make a video. I will adjust the angle of the box to show it.

Then I adjusted the angle to see more broadly.

AR

Afterwards, I used AR software to scan the code. I imagined the branches from the video image, and used 3D modeling to simulate the surrounding animals, trees, and grass to enhance the experience.

In order to avoid the sudden appearance of the QR code, I decided to put it on a leaf, and the QR code appeared on the leaf for everyone to scan and interact.

The result pops up after scanning the code

 AR+ Video

I got feedback that I needed to keep the QR code still, so that it would be easier for viewers to scan and interact. I also decorated my QR code. I edited it in AE again. I thought it was about the forest, so I slowly grew the vines to decorate the QR code.

Reflection

Overall, this experience has given me knowledge about projection mapping and a deeper understanding of After Effects. It’s a shame that we can’t practice them on campus due to lack of resources, but this is understandable to some extent since it is a fairly new module. I am still not very familiar with the Resolume Arena software, but I was able to fully master After Effects. I am glad to have the opportunity to learn this niche art form. All in all, this project taught me to use AR and become more familiar with the software AE. I believe that I will be able to use AE more easily in the following projects, which I believe will help me a lot in my future.
